Chiropractic FAQ

  • What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession based on the fact that the body is designed to be healthy and that the nervous system is master control system of the body. We work with the spine because of its close relationship with and ability to influence the nervous system. We aim to increase proper biomechanics and movement patterns in order to reduce tension and stress on the spine and nervous system and restore proper physiologic function.

Our office works hard to ensure that we are providing you with the individualized care that is most appropriate for you as well as answer all questions you may have so that you are comfortable knowing that you are in the right place.

  • What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific, controlled force in a precise direction that is applied to a spinal joint not moving properly or subluxated (“locked up”). The purpose of this natural and safe procedure is to correct structural alignment and eliminate interference in the nervous system. For the patient, this means improved spinal function, reduction in pain, and an overall improvement in health and wellness.

  • How long will it take?

How long it takes to experience a noticeable difference with care is variable. This depends both on your desired outcome and how low you have been experiencing your complaint. In general, practice member notice a distinct difference in the chief complaint within four to six weeks.

  • Does insurance cover care?

We do accept insurance in our office although all plans are different so please call your insurance company directly for individual plan benefits.

Generally speaking insurance covers initial or acute/active phase of care. We aim to work with you on your goals of improved health and unction and much like any health prompting habit consistency is key. Once you are no longer experiencing acute symptoms you will likely want to continue your care but your insurance company is no longer willing to contribute.

  • Is chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive approaches to address musculoskeletal complaints, most commonly  back and neck problems. Chiropractic is successful in caring for these ailments due to its ability to influence the nervous system. The nervous system exerts  control over all systems of the body and therefore chiropractic is beneficial for a multitude of symptoms of dysfunction in the body. Spinal adjustments are extremely safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor.

  • What is that sound?

The ‘popping or cracking’ commonly associated with a chiropractic adjustment is not dangerous it is similar to what you hear when you ‘crack’ your knuckles. It’s an indication of the joint moving and the release of tiny air/gas pockets that normally reside within the joint capsules of our body.

The noises you hear resembling popping sounds are your joints releasing tiny pockets of air. A chiropractic adjustment does not affect the bones of either side of a joint; it affects the connective tissue that holds the joint together.
